What Color Ribbon Is Represented for Melanoma Awareness Month?

Cancer awareness is very important for disease prevention and a reminder to keep up with exams from skin cancer surgeons Parker CO has. That is why cancer awareness campaigns are held throughout the year to educate the public about the symptoms that should not be neglected as well as about the importance of screening. To increase the efficiency of the campaigns, each month of the year is dedicated to a particular type of cancer and each of the most common types of cancer is associated with a particular color worn in the form of a tiny ribbon.

One of the most common forms of cancer all over the world is melanoma, a type of skin cancer that develops when the cells that confer the skin the brown color that we know as suntan start multiplying uncontrollably. One of the most common causes of melanoma is sunburn – the skin damage caused by prolonged exposure to strong solar radiation –, this might be the reason why the ribbon color associated with melanoma is black. The month during which melanoma is in the center of cancer awareness campaigns is May – the beautiful months at the end of spring, that also marks the beginning of summer, when we all want to go outside to get tanned and when sunshine starts being really strong.
